I’m never going to be able to listen to B. J. Snowden’s “In Canada” with a straight face again.

Oh, wait—I never have listened to “In Canada” with a straight face.

Wow, you must be the only other person I know who knows BJ Snowden.

I got into her through my friend Irwin, who mentions her in his book on outsider musicians, Songs in the Key of Z. How did you hear of her?

Curtis was supposed to do some drumming for her--she was produced by Fred Schneider of B-52s fame, here in the city. A lot of the downtown people here were really into her, which is why FS brought her to NYC to record. Curtis says she was a very nice, tiny Canadian black woman, a schoolteacher--or are all those terms redundant? *g*
